Sustainable

Thermafleece is made using wool sourced from British hill sheep. Because sheep have to be clipped annually for welfare reasons, wool is a natural renewable fibre from a fully sustainable resource.

These qualities alone make it one of the most sustainable insulation materials currently on the market.

The main environmental benefits of Thermafleece are shown below.

Zero Global Warming Potential(GWP)

GWP is a measure of how much a product contributes to global warming. GWP is expressed in carbon dioxide equivalents since widely associated with global warming,. For example, if a material has a GWP of 10, 1 kg of the material will contribute 10 times more to global warming than 1kg of carbon dioxide.

With a GWP of below zero, the contribution of Thermafleece towards global warming is significantly less than conventional insulation.

The Benefits of Local Sourcing and Production

Zero Ozone Depletion Potential(ODP)

ODP is a measure of the potential of a product or material to cause damage to the ozone layer. Materials that can be particularly damaging include blowing agents used in the production of foam insulation.

Thermafleece has an ODP of zero meaning that none of the materials contained in the insulation or used in its production pose any danger to the ozone layer.

Reduced Carbon Footprint

By installing 250mm of Thermafleece in a loft, the typical household can reduce its heating costs by up to 25% and their CO2 emissions by a staggering one tonne per year.

Long Lasting

Because Thermafleece is capable of maintaining its structure and loft throughout the life of the building, it does not have to be replaced at frequent intervals which may be the case with mainstream alternative insulations. The British Board of Agrement (BBA) has certified that Thermafleece will have the same life expectancy as the construction in which it is installed.

Safe Re-Use and Disposal

At the end of its long service life, Thermafleece poses no threat to the environment and can be recycled for other environmentally friendly applications or disposed of safely through composting. In addition, Thermafleece contains no permethrin, pyrethroids or formaldehyde.
