Introducing EdenBloc35 – A Step Change For Natural Insulation
Natural insulation expert Second Nature UK Ltd is pleased to announce the launch of its new Edenbloc35 rigid insulation at this year’s Ecobuild exhibition.
EdenBloc35 is a natural, low density rigid insulation that can be used in many internal situations including wall lining, under rafters, between rafters and timber studs to provide first class thermal performance.
The unique patented technology combines excellent thermal performance with the breathability of natural fibres, bridging the gap between synthetic foams and conventional sustainable insulation materials.
EdenBloc35 can be used in dry lining systems to provide insulation when upgrading existing wall structures. It can also be used for insulating stud partitions and for timber frame infill, as well as under and between rafters.
Second Nature‘s Commercial Director Mark Lynn commented: “This is an exciting time for Second Nature. We are at the forefront of developing cutting edge natural insulation, with EdenBloc35 being the first in a new generation of natural rigid insulation.”
EdenBloc35 is vapour permeable and breathable ensuring it acts in sympathy with the building envelope and making it an ideal for use in breathable building systems. Additionally, because EdenBloc35 binds moisture, thermal performance is not significantly affected by fluctuations in humidity and temperature.
Commenting further, Mark Lyn added: “It is important that companies like Second Nature continue to set the standard in terms of quality, innovation and performance in the field of natural insulation. With EdenBloc35, we hope to build on the strength of our Thermafleece brand and drive natural insulation closer to mainstream acceptance as their full performance and sustainability benefits gain wider recognition.”
By using a natural biopolymer binder system we have eliminated the need for synthetic components, substantially reducing environmental impact and the need to rely of fossil derived materials. Our natural binder system is safe to reuse and allows efficient energy recovery or composting at the end of life.
Not only does EdenBloc35 contribute towards sizable energy savings and CO2 reductions in service, it locks up nearly twice its weight in CO2 providing a double benefit when it comes to climate change. What’s more, unlike other natural rigid insulation, EdenBloc35 boards are made in the UK in a purpose built factory in Cumbria, helping minimise the carbon footprint of transport to site.
The protein fibres in EdenBloc35 boards absorb and ‘fix’ airborne pollutants including formaldehyde. This can help control levels of indoor air pollutants and contribute to a healthier indoor environment. Proteins are also more naturally resistant to combustion eliminating the need for high concentrations of fire retardant treatments.
